Unoriginal produce for original production.

Keeping on theme with fruit-that-looks-like-things, I present to you the pineberry, the most unoriginal and uninspired fruit in recent memory. It looks like a strawberry, apparently tastes like a pineapple (hence the name -dont worry it took me a while to figure that my sudden, loud, very public JB- Hi Fi - located realisation that flo-rida was actually florida with a hyphon).

They grow wild in South America, and were thought to be extinct until a bunch of helpful Dutch farmers took them under their wing. Well done to the dutch, you can now list the Pineberry to your list of discoveries, after the telescope, compact disc, bacteria, the rings of saturn, Australia and the artificial kidney. Yeah....uhhh well done...

The Hump Day Project, the Sydney 2 piece that have spent the past few years finding their ground, have found said ground and can be seen over the next few years holding it. This remix couldn't get sample clearance, but they decided to be cool about it and just release it for free. Cheeky. I already posted the DCUP remix because its the definition of freaky, but disregard that, be cool and buy the whole thing HERE

Here's a new Douster + Savage Skulls Jam thats pretty win. Shooop!

Some nice little tropical tech house ditties.

Oui'Wack - Killing it!!!! Youtube links only sorry!!! More coming soon!

Who are The Dolphins? I dont even know! Their myspace photos make them look like a trio, and their location is Italy, so i spoooose their an Italian trio whose music happens to sit between tribal, tropical tech and deep/jazzier stuff. All you need to know is that its cool and that you should check out the following and enjoy!!

Flying Lotus + Thom York track off Cosmogramma. Theres nothing I can say about this. Its too much for words.

"And the world laughs with you"

And finally the super hard to find super rare super awesome alter ago of the super Erol Alkan has a new jam. Its a mish mash of Missy Elliot and The Cure and is the business. Check music history.

Sorry, I got way too excited for reading tickets. I was up for 4 hours trying to nab that shit, ridiculous. But I'm seeing a reformed Libertines and Cypress Hill in one weekend so thats pretty cool.

The loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) is a fruit tree that grows around southeastern China. It  is still sometimes known as the Japanese medlar. According to the interbutts, the only interesting thing about this fruit is that it grows in opposite seasons to most fruit in the area. In other words, the fruit grows in winter. Mad. Heaps of fruit grows in winter. So fuck you Loquat.

Anyway I was looking at some photos and i discovered something way cooler about this, and that is that it looks exactly like a god damn Pokémon...

Sudowoodo is a bending, bipedal creature vaguely in the shape of a tree trunk. It has a double-pronged protuberance on its head, tiny feet, a simple face, and a pair of three-fingered hands where the fingers are green spheres resembling leaves on a tree. Although Sudowoodo pretends to be a tree, its body is made not out of wood, but rock, possibly a reference to petrified wood. Since water erodes stone, it severely dislikes water, and seems to disappear in the rain[11]. It uses this as a form of camouflage, hiding among forest areas to avoid being attacked by enemies. Additionally, its signature technique is Mimic, which allows it to copy enemy attacks. It earns its classification as the imitation Pokémon through these practices.

In the winter seasons, when trees are either white with snow or have had their leaves fall off from autumn, Sudowoodo is easy to spot as a fake because its hands remain green, making winter a more dangerous time for Sudowoodo to be in the presence of foes.

I'm a bit behind with this one, but Pablo Calamari, one half of Act Yo Age and sign-on to the Sweat It Out label I've been flogging way too much lately has a new release called Think About You alongside Velicious. The press release described it better than I ever could, and with way more sass...

"Pablo Calamari spins back to his roots in this latest offering, a boogie down filtered groover with an infectious vocal hook and sweet sunset strings! Yes its deep disco house and we love it! Its NYC skyline and a Sydney sunset all in one!"

Yep. Awesome. You can will buy it here, but here's the original and two of the five awesome (and I mean their all fucking SICK) remixes, courtesy of DCUP and Nick Thayer. Their in 128kbps, which is just enough for you to bust out with on public transport, but also a nice push for you to buy it when you decide its time to get serious. And I'm being serious when I tell you to get this. Because its radicoooool.

(in order of madness)

Bakehaus is a new label built between Australia and New Zealand. They seem to be pushing a pretty cool tech-vibe, but its a bit hard to tell with only one official release.

Said official release is a joint venture with OMG! Records in the US, a very cool track by Daniel Farley and Tom Piper named Airbag. Its a very now, very metropolitan tech jam that holds back on the original, letting the remixes (by the likes of Riva Starr and Danny T) take a wild hold to excellent results. It's getting support from anyone whose anyone, anywhere (think along the lines of Steve Aoki, Foamo, Edu K, Tittsworth and Drop The Lime) and is out now on beatport.

To get you in the groove here's a two-track file, including the Screwface Johnson + Danny T remixes of this killer vibe. Enjoy.

Daniel Farley and Tom Piper - Airbag (Danny T + Screwface Johnson Remixes)

Hess is More released their debut album 'Hits' just recently, and have finally put a remix EP up on beatport, responsible for the  previously mentioned Zombie Disco Squad throwdown that blew lots of faces. Here's the revenge + Pete Herbert remixes. According to the press release these would sound best in your artistic loft, however us in the tropics don't mind it either.  Buy it here.

Yes Boss (Pete Herbert remix) by nublu

And don't forget everyone, Erykah Badu: New Amerykah Part II: Return of the Ankh came out yesterday (amongst some other jems such as a new Human Factor EP and Ricky Martin). Geeeeeet on it!

The horned melon (Cucumis metuliferus), also called African horned cucumber or melon, jelly melon, hedged gourd, English tomato, melano, or kiwano, is an annual vine in the cucumber and melon family. Often known by its nickname in the southeastern United States - blowfish fruit - it is grown for its fruit, which looks like an oval melon with horn-like spines. The fruit of this plant is edible, but it is used as often for decoration as for food. When ripe, it has a yellow-orange skin and a lime green jelly-like flesh. The horned melon is native to Africa, and it is now grown in California, Chile, and New Zealand as well.

To me, that shit looks like Salvador Dali ate acid and had sex with God. One would feel ultra dutty getting on that, but apparently it's popular in Africa.

GO SYDNEY!!!!!!!

Sydney, good on you!!!!!!

Flight Facilities have just released a new super jam called 'Crave You'. I crave this, its an excellent slice of chilled, addictive disco, which also comes with a host of remixes from the likes of James Curd, The C90's, Bxcentric and Cassian. Perfection, in original and remixed form, especially when your getting ex-Greenskeeprs on the job.

 Buy it here!

The boys have been really looking forward to releasing this, and if their interview on fbi last week was anything to go by it's been a long time coming. Well done guys.

Moonchild, who I think is going to take up a lot of space on this page, has just put out a preview of his new track called Disco Ship. Awesome, funky, filtered track. Try not to bust out too hard to this one. If your a newbie this comes with two of his other crazy good tracks.

Still in Sydney, and Light Year, another regular to the site, have given permission to post some new tracks from their EP called 'Night / Vision'. Here's two of my favorites. Congrats to the guys for hitting #2 on the Beatport nu-disco chart for 'Sex Education'. With a bit of luck (and your support) a #1 aint too far away!!! ">BUY IT NOW

Moving north to Newcastle, Brenton Bcattz (who is looking rather suave in the picture above) is back with a new sub-tropical tech jam. Mad!

Newigians are definitely picking up their game, hopefully will be able to post some new stuff thats getting international recognition next week!

This is international but such a track. Awesome Steview Wonder sample, really gets heads nodding. Its called 'WTF' by DJ Hot Action, and you can only buy it (try here). Heres a live sample vid, courtesy of Derrick Carter and the Apple Store 5th Avenue.

This is a bit old but its pretty fantastic. Chopped and pasted coolness.

Beastie Boys references aside, these Star Fruit are what I wish my mum gave me as a kid. Who wants apples and pears and shit when you can be eating STARS!

Carambola, or starfruit, is the fruit of Averrhoa carambola, a species of tree native to Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka. The tree and its fruit are popular throughout Southeast Asia, the South Pacific and parts of East Asia. The tree is also cultivated throughout the tropics, such as in ColombiaTrinidad,GuyanaDominican Republic and Brazil, and, in the United States, in south Florida and Hawaii.

The carambola is closely related to the bilimbi. The fruit in cross-section is a five-pointed star, hence its name.

Yeah boiyeee, its like cookie cutter fruit without the cookie cutter = half the effort. UNluckily, these things are huge fruit fly attractions, so importation is illeagal in most contries. On top of that, the oxalic acid is of higher percent than most fruit, so some people can have some serious damage caused by such a sick looking fruit. Shame really. Thanks for looking out for me mum...

Now for some more rising stars. These ones wont kill you, I dont think.

Now before I say anything, I only found out about this today and is probably the most exciting thing
I've seen all year.

Check the bottom of this post for details.

Mystery aside, I'm feeling grooooovy this evening. House time!

THE CLOVER (sounds so ominous) are a three-piece Florentian dj crew who play funky disco stylings with live PA and percussion. They have this awesome sense of existing disco-house but they add jackin'/funk sides that lift it from generic top ten lists, transport it around the galaxy roughly five times than slams it down on your face like a golden shower from James Brown himself. Cool? Yeah. I could only get short samples of the tracks, but you can buy the EP here. Its out now on Boscani Records.

Dj Luis Patty. His entire myspace is in Mexican, so if you are a good translator can you send me some info on him?? These are mad hot.

New Mowgli EP; at time of writing he's playing in Sydney this very second. But all well, his last visit was like 2 months ago I'm sure it wont be long for the next one......?

Some Serious New Jams:  - Props to thursday night sunsets on fbi for most of these (aka your friends Anna Lunoe and Kato - more on them soon)

And finally some BAND MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mainly coz ive been stalking the Warp Records site, who seem to be moving on from inebriotic electronica to guitars and synths. Loving it!

Speaking of Warp, and to explain the first picture, the new FLYING LOTUS ep has been announced for a 3rd of May release date. The entire release info is detailed here. Ya'll should know how much of a fan I am, I really do hope that if you don't know who this is that you get on down and educate yourself! IT'S FOR YOUR BENEFIT.

This is one of their latest releases from an act known as 'Nice Nice'. The Portland peeps are doing something mad with their tracks, a very intersting explosion of rock and electronica. Think along the lines of Health, mixed with My Bloody Valentine with some Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I don't even know, but check the incredible video for their track 'Everything Fall Apart' from the album 'Extra Wow'.

High demands...

I liked the story behind this one...

The Purple Mangosteen is a tropical evergreen tree, believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas of Indonesia. The tree grows from 7 to 25 m (20–80 ft) tall. The rind (exocarp) of the edible fruit is deep reddish purple when ripe. The fragrant edible flesh can be described as sweet and tangy, citrusy with peach flavor and texture.

Now APPARENTLY, Queen Victoria once offered 100 pounds (which back then was like ten billion dollars) to the first person to bring her one of these babys. Thats as far as the legend goes, I dunno if anyone actually did. Also, according to botanists the fruit only tastes good when its within 4 degrees of its place of origin. Thats pretty wild. They were also only just made legal in the US, apparently they were a fruit fly threat. Never has a fruit been so fucking controversial.

CHANGING THE SUBJECT, don't you hate it when you jump on beatport because some amazing new piece of something has come out, and instead of clicking 'buy' you see that stupid piece of shit magnifying glass comes up saying 'restricted'. That shit is frustrating. Its like when you turn on the TV to watch Getaway, and fucking Sorrel Wilby comes on presenting the latest in 3rd world tourism. Seriously, she would go to Sierra Leone and claim diamond farming as an attraction. Anyway due to global restrictions being a BITCH I've had to leave some tracks out, but will hopefully throw them down in the future.

Okaaaaaay! DEBRUIT.  Another Euro-Producer who is making sounds from everywhere but. This guys productions are something special, delving somewhere into tropical-dubstep-glitch hop-2step and probably a lot of other genres that havn't been invented yet. Thoroughly impressed with this, and If you download one artist from this page then I suggest this be it. Especially the first track. Yew!!

SamiYam is no stranger to this site, but some new tracks got released which have just been bought to attention. Cant find any downloads so you'll just have to deal with these youtube links!

'Hot Mess' have been garnering some very special attention over the last few weeks, the American Duo recently featuring on Beatports top ten dubstep February tracks. They're really tapping into that fucked up dubstep sound thats best thrown down peak-time, and I am rather enjoying it.

Hot Mess - Myspace (Plonka - Highly Recommended)

More Tidbits:

This is so good it gets an embed:

And last but certainly not least...

Erykah Badu. She is the best. All her releases are solid and 'Mama's Gun' is definitely in my top 10 albums of all time.  I could write so much more on why I think she is great and trumping every hip hop artist today, but I wont. Instead, I will just let you know that her new album 'New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh' comes out the 30th, so you should go buy it then. Heres a leaked track for hype!!

This ones co-produced by Madlib, so you shits gonna get real...
